So ground transportation is the only option.

By Public Bus

The local Bus departs every day from Kathmandu, Gongabu bus station, toward Syabrubesi. Local buses are a cheap way to reach Syabubesi. The local bus ticket price costs around NPR 900-1200 per person. You can find the ticket inside the Gongabu bus station ticket counter. The local Bus has a seat capacity of around 30-35, and it stops at several places for pickup and dropoff. 

By Express local Bus:

Express buses are similar to the local buses. The only difference is that they are designed for tourists, allowing them to reach Syabrubesi without stopping at many places like local buses do. It also departs from the Gongabu bus station, but it has only one timing, which is 7:00 AM. The express bus ticket will cost you around NPR 1000 – 1500 per person.

By Sharing Local Jeep:

The comfortable and budget-friendly option to reach the Syabrubesi is by taking the sharing Jeep from Outside of Gongabu bus station/Machhapokhari. By Hiring a Private Jeep:

Road Conditions From Kathmandu to Syabrubesi

On average, the road conditions from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi are fine. Till March 2026, 70–80% road is blacktopped, and the remaining 20-30% is off-road. The most challenging part of the Syabrubesi road trip is crossing the Ramche Landslide, which is 3 km long near Dhunche. During the rainy season, crossing the landslide zone is risky, so always check the weather conditions before heading out. 

Check Points and Permits 

All the travellers who are heading for the Langtang trek and the Tamang heritage trails must obtain the permit. There is a checkpoint at the Dunche where all your permits will be checked before you reach Syabrubesi. We highly recommend that you obtain the required permit before heading for the trek. You can obtain the permit either from the Kathmandu Tourism Board or at the checkpoint by paying fees of around NPR 3,000 per person( for foreigners).

Best Time to Go For Syabrubesi Road Trip

For both trekking and road trip the best time is during the spring and autumn seasons when the chances of rainfall are low, and visibility is good due to perfect weather conditions. You can also travel during winter, but we don’t recommend traveling during the monsoon season due to the risk of sudden flash floods and landslides.

Atm and Bank Facilities:

You can find a very limited number of ATMs and banks en route from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi. Due to the remote location, we generally don’t recommend you to rely, so carry enough cash if you are heading out for the trip. 

Medical and Gear Shop:

There are only basic health care clinics with no advanced hospitals around Syabrubesi. For the major illness or emergency medical treatment, you need to reach the Kathmandu Valley. Locals have opened a few shops where they sell trekking gears but the choice here is limited, and the price is also high compared to what you can buy in Kathmandu.

Hotel/Tea house at Syabrubesi:

Due to the increased number of tourists in the Langtang region, we have seen the number of hotels and tea houses grow recently. From budget to luxury hotels can be found in Syabrubesi, but they are in limited numbers. 

Restaurant and Cafes in Syabrubesi:

There are several restaurants and cafes that provide service to travellers in Syabrubesi. They mostly sell the Nepali dishes with a few international dishes. There are also cafes and bakeries in Syabrubesi.

Accommodation and Food In Syabrubesi:

From budget friendly to private luxury rooms in hotels/guest houses are available in Sybarubesi. This accommodation provides a comfortable stay for trekkers which are run by local people. Many lodges are located close to the Bhote Koshi River, offering a peaceful and scenic stay.

After the completion of your treks in the Langtang Region you will return from the Syabrubesi as it is the beginning and ending point. You can choose a local bus, or a shared/private jeep depending upon your preference and budget. The price is similar to what is mentioned above. It will take around 6-9 hours to reach Kathmandu from Syabrubesi. We recommend you to leave the Syabruesbi early in the morning after breakfast and be prepared for possible delays due to road conditions.
