Nepal and Tibet share a border along the entire northeastern edge of Nepal, parallel to the towering Himalayan Mountain Range. While both destinations are major draws for international visitors, they present striking contrasts in landscape and culture, despite their location in the world’s highest mountain range.

Commonalities Between Tibet and Nepal

As close neighbors, Tibet and Nepal share several commonalities:

  • Geographical proximity: They share a border in the high Himalayas, including base camps at Mt. Everest.
  • Religious connections: Buddhism is predominant among Nepal’s mountain communities, while Hinduism is more widespread throughout the rest of the country. Many elements of Buddhism have been incorporated into Nepalese Hinduism, creating a unique blend of the two religions.
